Dujiangyan Irrigation System

Today, we ventured out to Dujiangyan to see the world’s oldest non-dam irrigation system that is still in use, controlling the waters of the Minjiang River. According to UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), construction began in the 3rd century B.C.

You can read more about the history of the irrigation system by clicking on the following links:

There were also many ancient temples, palaces and other structures situated along the river including Fulong Temple, Anlan cable bridge, Qinyan Tower, Erwang Temple, and the Yulei Tower.

We had an amazing day exploring this historically rich site.

The Lord God made them all.

We visited the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base today. It was such an amazing experience to see so many pandas up close.

For lunch, we ordered this hot and sour beef and rice bowl. It was so yummy and obviously darling!

We were there for 3 hours, and although we were able to see a lot, we ran out of time and will need to go back to visit the discovery center and the museum (and see the pandas again, of course!)

I asked the boys to write a little summary of their day to include in this post…

Liam

All right. I know everyone is like, “!🤩 pandas 🤩!” Yes, they are cute and fuzzy, but most of the giant pandas are SUPER lazy 🐼. The cubs are AWESOME though, and some adult pandas are fun to watch. The red pandas (or fox cats, as I call them) were really energetic and playful!

I got a stuffed panda bear (not a real one), and it is the softest, most flexible, and biggest one! 🐼🐾

There were a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot of pandas. Also, the scenery was AMAZING🤩🤩😎😎‼️

Summary: Pandas are awesome.

Colson

When we got there everyone was very excited and ready to explore 😀. As we walked for awhile I got a little fussy 😠, but then we saw pandas! We saw some climbing trees, and some just relaxing. It was awesome!!!!!!!!!!🤩 We saw some red pandas. I had never seen one before. They looked like stuffed animals. We kept looking 👀 at more pandas for awhile before we left 😩.  It was really fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄

The baby pandas were very cute and so were the adults. My favorite thing to see was the three baby pandas that reminded me of my brothers. The one that reminded me of me was the cutest.

The coffee that mom got was very cute because they put a panda made out of cream at the top.

We got very cute stuffed animals. Colson’s was the softest, Liam’s was the most real like panda, and mine was the cutest because it is holding a baby panda in its arms.

It was very beautiful there.

A few pandas fell in the ditches.

Mostly, all we saw were pandas eating bamboo, but there was one adult panda that was going to climb up the playground that they built for him but then he fell down and went to sleep. Everyone said, “Awwwww”, and they were sad.

Most of the baby pandas were active all morning, but then a school group came at noon and all the pandas were having their nap time, so the babies weren’t awake. And we left.

We had such a great day and I can’t wait to go back and explore some more. I hope you enjoy these videos!
